Sonny Christopher Chapman passed at the age of 11 on 6/24/21 at 6:23am surrounded by his parents. For those of you who have not met this American Cocker Spaniel, he had an extremely hard beginning to his life. He lived on the streets in New York City, was placed in a kill shelter in New Jersey, was rescued by Abandon Angels and lived in a shelter for troubled dogs in Afton New York. Sonny was adopted by multiple families, but was always returned due to anxiety and his inability to trust. At the age of 5 on March 28, 2015, Sonny found his “forever home” with Pamela and James Chapman. For the rest of his life he resided with them in Oxford, New York. With a lot of hard work and determination from his owners, he was on his way to learning to trust and love again. Sonny loved to go for long walks as long as the entire family went along. Every morning, Sonny would go for his morning walks, but would always make sure he was back to say good-bye to Mom before she left for work. Over the years Sonny developed a love for snuggling every chance he could get. He knew it was snuggle time each time he saw the Batman blanket. During the day if you needed to find him he could be found in 3 places: under the desk in the office when Dad was working, under the piano, or in his ugly leather recliner that no one was allowed to sit in. At night time, Sonny had to come up on the bed to say good night. He would cover Dad’s face with kisses and snuggle in his armpit, or with someone’s feet. Sonny had a gentle heart, and learned to live life to the fullest by loving his family. He fell in love with his new Mom the first time he laid eyes on her. Sonny always knew dad was great for tummy rubs, ear rubs, and a great snuggle buddy on the loveseat in the living room. Sonny leaves behind a family of four, his owners James and Pam as well as a 17 year Shitzu Maltese named Izzy and a 1 year old American StaffordShire Terrier named Ripley. Letter to Sonny: Sonny, It is so hard to say good-bye since it feels like our time together was too short. We want you to know that even though you were extremely stubborn at times that we would drop heaven and earth to make sure you had the best possible life.Mom and Dad will always love you. We hope you are in a better place eating lots of cheese, Milk Bones, strawberries, apples, and blueberries! Until we meet again.--Love Mom and Dad
