Harley, AKA Dwyer's Irish Harley was born on November 23rd 2013 and crossed the rainbow bridge peacefully in his sleep, at home on January 21st 2025. Harley first came into our lives when we saw him at the pet store and we all fell in love with him. We knew that he was the one that we would spend as long as he’d give us, loving him. He gave us an amazing 11 years that will forever be cherished. You may be wondering where he got his name, it's a funny story actually. He grumbled so much that we decided Harley like the motorcycle, suited him perfectly. The day we brought him home was the day our lives changed forever.
He was a big ball of energy that would constantly do zoomies around the house. One of his favorite things to do was to play in the snow. Never had we seen a dog who loved the snow as much as he did. Harley’s best friend in the whole world is our dog Nut-Nut, who would never leave the poor guy alone, but they were inseparable. There was never a dull moment in our lives with Harley around.
Harley had a health scare at only a few months old due to choking on food, and we almost lost him, but that didn’t stop him from being his usual self after recovering. Harley loved to be around kids and loved to sleep in between our legs when we were laying down. Harley instantly knew when someone was sick because he would always be right there with you. We could write down a million things about Harley and how he brightened our lives but we’d be here forever. Seeing Harley grow from a little puppy to an old man is one of the greatest gifts because we got to see him in all his stages of life. From the young puppy who ran everywhere to the old man who only ever wanted to sleep. But even the little moments meant everything.
The last year of Harley’s life had been rough due to infections and tumors, but he never lost his spark until the last month. We knew the time was coming soon but nothing could have prepared us for the pain and emptiness we feel. It is said that God puts animals in our lives for one reason, and that reason is to show us unconditional love no matter what, and to show us that we can be loved without any words or judgement. Harley definitely accomplished the loving us unconditionally part. Harley put a smile on everyone's face even if they were having a bad day.
Harley, you were the best boy in the whole world and we are so thankful that you gave us, out of everyone in the world the chance to love you forever. Thank you for being not only Riley’s emotional support dog, but all of ours. We’ll make sure to take good care of your Nut-Nut until you see her again up in doggy heaven. We hope you’re running around up there pain free and have more stuffies and blankets than you could ever imagine. As Winnie the Pooh said, “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard. But it's not goodbye. It's see you later”. Until we meet again our sweet boy, sleep well.
Love Forever,
Mom, Dad, Briana, Riley, Nut-Nut, Hazel, Athena, and Daisy
