Bunner -

Bunner, our beautiful black rabbit, died peacefully on December 24, 2022. He was 10 years old. 
We adopted him into our family on November 12th, just six weeks prior. He was recently surrendered to the fine folks at Pet Rescue of Mercer in New Jersey. While this could have been the end of the line for him, and discarded somewhere, he was fortunate. He deserved so much more. 
We suspected that our time together would not be long, but we wanted to make sure he felt loved in the twilight of his life. 
He lost mobility issues suddenly one week prior to his death, and after a trip to his vet to receive the very best care, he came home to us. We were ready to care for him and do whatever we needed to do. We were reading up on disabled rabbits, but he was ready to go on his own terms. 
Bunner joins Stanley, another sweet elderly rabbit, that we adopted in 2019, who died in April 2022. He is also joined by Bean, our dear first rescue adopted in 2016, who died in 2020, who inspired more rescues and all our work protecting animals. 
It was an honor spending this time with you, Bunner. You gave us so much in a short period of time. We will miss your many licks and how you gazed at us. We hope you know how much you were loved, when your deep breaths calmed and you then drifted off, while in our arms on Christmas Eve.
Please adopt a senior bun, kitty or pup. They are truly the best. We hope that Bunner’s life will inspire others to adopt and bring rabbits into their homes from shelters. They are kind, gentle souls and deserve love, attention and care - inside your home, not outside - just as any other companion. 
We love you, Bunner. We will never forget you.
